"As Tentações de Bosch e o Eterno Retorno" (Bosh's Temptations and the Eternal Return), Exhibition project

"As Tentações de Bosch e o Eterno Retorno" (Bosh's Temptations and the Eternal Return), Exhibition project
By the initiative of "Lisboa 94 – European Capital of Culture", it was assembled, in the gallery for temporary exhibitions of the Museu de Arte Antiga (Museum of Ancient Art), in Lisbon, an exhibition under the structuring theme of Surrealism. This task gathered a set of drawings, paintings and sculptures by many known authors such as Bosch, Goya, Magritte, Russeau, Picasso, Dali, Breton and Duchamp, among others, generously lent by some of the most prestigious museums and galleries of the world.

Given the insufficient size of the gallery, the exhibition assemblage needed to build a supplementary structure that could work as an exhibition wall. At the same time, these structures would also be useful to separate and articulate the sub-themes and/or authors, according to the curator's concept.

The means used were basic and low-cost (painted mdf over metal structures), intentionally merging, to the more distracted look, the museography with the thick walls of the convent-now-museum.

The sculpture room, centred on the theme of Surrealism, has invaded, due to room necessities, part of the storage area, thus manifesting itself as a "space within a space", elevated and perspectived, dislocating referentially the relationship of the observer with the works of art, and standing out as a strong point in the visit's experience.
