Santos Dumont
Description
In a historically expectant lot, the project completes the urban front of Av. Santos Dumont seeking to recognize and respond to the specific context in which it is inserted: the limit between the city and the railway channel. This condition results in a two-scale approach, which seeks to contribute, simultaneously, to an urban and architectural appreciation of the place. Whether through the planting of trees and the modeling of the courtyard that protects life in the common garden from noise, or through the careful design of the lower faces of the balconies that give the street a distinct character.
The internal organization of the housing program directs most of the common areas of the homes to the south, in order to allow wide, diaphanous and fluid spaces, characteristic of a contemporary way of living, to relate to the city. This approach gives the building a sense of transparency and lightness, protected by a metal skin of vertical posts, railings and screens that give intimacy to the balconies and apartments. On the rear façade, the elevation uses more specific openings that protect private spaces from visual and noise pollution, while still allowing the enjoyment of external spaces over the garden.
On the penthouse floor level, we find three private terraces of the apartments located on the top floor. With swimming pools and gardens for the exclusive use of each unit, these are accessed directly from inside the house by stairs that give access to small volumes/lanterns arranged on the roof. These constructions present themselves as architectural exceptions to the rigid rules of building composition, not only formally, but chromatically.
